Cynthia (Cindy) Hammock Perdue, 55, of Bassett, passed away Sunday, March 25, 2007, after a courageous battle with cancer at her mother’s house in Salem.
She was a native of Franklin County and enjoyed her career as Human Resources Director for the Town of Rocky Mount.
She was preceded in death by her father, James William (Bill) Hammock, who passed away in 1977 with lung cancer.
Cindy is finally happy to see Dale Earnhardt in Heaven seeing how she commissioned the NASCAR Family racing pool. Also known as “Yogi” by her softball teammates from the Fieldcrest Mills she also enjoyed hunting and fishing. In support of her love for her children Cindy was a huge part of the Bassett High School Band. She was president of the Band Boosters and helped the band with their travels up and down the east coast. She loved every minute and every exciting win that Bassett achieved! She firmly believed that there was “no such thing as a bad teenager”. Cindy never met a stranger and had the most outgoing and friendly personality that you would have ever met. Just ask anyone who knew her!
She is survived by her husband of 35 years, Gary Dwight Perdue, Bassett; her children Shanna Leigh Perdue, Pilot and Landon William Perdue, Charlottesville; and of course the “third” child the cat Sam, Bassett. She is also survived by her mother and caregiver Iva Sink Hammock, Salem; her sister Susan Galliher and her husband Ron, Roanoke; her brothers James Richard Hammock (Ricky) and his wife Theresa, Rocky Mount, North Carolina, James Spencer Hammock (Johnny), Plano, Texas. She is also survived by her grandmother Roxie Sink, Rocky Mount, Virginia.
A Celebration of Her Life will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 31, 2007. Long time friend, the Reverend Tom Auker will officiate.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that contributions be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 3907, Martinsville, VA 24115.
The family would like to express their many Thanks to the Blue Ridge Cancer Center of Roanoke and Good Samaritan Hospice.
