Clara Furrow Eanes, of Rocky Mount, Virginia, passed away on May 19, 2026, at the age of 92. Born on May 23, 1933, in Franklin County, she was the daughter of the late Sherman Alvin Furrow and Eva Wimmer Furrow Guilliams.
Clara was a devoted Christian and a longtime member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church, later attending Franklin Heights Church in Rocky Mount. Her faith remained a guiding force throughout her life, and she stayed active in the church for many years.
She was a dedicated worker throughout her life, serving for 20 years as an employee of DuPont in Martinsville, Virginia. She later worked as a nurse assistant at Franklin Memorial Hospital and as a cafeteria employee for the Franklin County School System.
Clara loved her flowers and took great joy in tending her flower gardens. She also loved to sew and was known as an excellent cook, especially for her beef roasts and macaroni and cheese, which were enjoyed by many.
Clara also had a deep love for bluegrass music, a joy she shared with her husband, Richard, who played rhythm guitar with The Diary Queen Band. Music brought them many happy times and was a treasured part of their life together.
Although she was not blessed with children of her own, she filled the role of motherly love in the lives of so many. Her guidance, compassion, and unwavering support touched generations of nieces, nephews, and family members who were fortunate to know her.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 64 years, Richard B. Eanes; her brothers, Sherman A. Furrow, Jr., Percy Kyrus Furrow and his wife, Belvie Hall Furrow, and Franklin “Bud” Furrow; and her brothers-in-law, William “Shirley” Campbell and Paul E. Waldrop.
She is survived by her sisters, Frances “Sis” Waldrop and Lois F. Campbell; her brother, Wayne W. Furrow and wife Poppy; and her sister-in-law, Dalphia C. Furrow, along with loving family members including cousins by the dozens and numerous nieces and nephews and friends who will cherish her memory.
Her family would like to express their sincere thanks to the staff of Fork Mountain Adult Home and Carilion Memorial Hospital for the care and kindness shown to Clara over the last couple of years.
The family would also like to extend special thanks to her nephew, Wendel Campbell, who lovingly cared for Clara for the last several years.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the church of your choice.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, May 26, 2026, at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Roselawn Burial Park, Martinsville, Virginia. The family will receive friends from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
