Clarence Wesley Byrd

Clarence Wesley Byrd, age 95 of Moneta (Scruggs Community) died Wednesday, October 24, 2018. He was preceded in death by his wife, Reva Wilson Byrd; son, Mike Byrd; parents, William Ezra and Curtis Lee Byrd; and siblings, William Byrd, Mary Brown (Clay), and Julia Brown (Mac). Mr. Byrd was a United States Army/Air Force Veteran of World War II. He retired from DuPont after 32 years of service. He is survived by his son, Don Byrd (Barbara); daughter, Sharon Byrd Layman (Dan); daughter-in-law, Judy Byrd; grandchildren, Terri Blankenship (Philip), Jason Byrd (Kelly), Katie Flynn, and Daniel Layman; six great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandchild; and special friend, Bonnie Harlow. Visitation will be held 6-8 p.m. Friday at Mt. Ivy Christian Church, Scruggs, Va. The family will process from Mt. Ivy Christian Church at 9:15 a.m. Saturday to Franklin Memorial Park where interment will be at 10 a.m. A memorial service will be held at 11:30 a.m. back at Mt. Ivy Christian Church with Rev. Steve Pasley officiating. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
