Clarence Dewayne Toney, age 59 of Roanoke and formerly of Boones Mill passed away Saturday, October 29, 2011 at his home following a courageous battle with his illness. He was preceded in death by his father and mother, John Robert and Bertha Lewis Toney; brothers, Carlton Toney and John E. Toney. Surviving are his wife of 32 years, Judy Stout Toney; children, Clarence Brian Toney, Shanna Yvette Smith (Cornell), Samantha Diane Toney; three grandchildren, Naya Chaplin, Evangelina Smith, Ezekiel Smith; sisters, Eloise Edwards (Cecil), Joan Elaine Williams; a number of beloved nieces and nephews; aunt, Ruth B. Johnson; and mother-in-law, Irene Wells Stout. Clarence began his career in custodial services at Franklin County High School and retired from Virginia Western Community College and Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. He was a lay leader at Mount Olivet United Methodist Church of Boones Mill. He enjoyed sports and was a volunteer coach for FCHS wrestling and football. Special thanks to Dr. Donald Smith and the 8th floor nurses and staff at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for their loving care and concern. Also thanks to Dr. William Grosch, Dr. Curtis Argo and staff at UVA Hospital. Funeral service will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday. Memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, 1079-C Spruce Street, Martinsville, Virginia 24112 or Good Samaritan Hospice, 2408 Electric Road, Roanoke, Virginia 24018. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
