Claude Buford "C.B." Nolen

Claude Buford “C.B.” Nolen, Jr., age 77 of Rocky Mount passed away on Saturday, May 14, 2011. He was born on July 22, 1933 a son of the late Claude Buford Nolen, Sr. and Naomi Angel Nolen. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Walter Nolen of Ferrum. C.B. was a graduate of Ferrum High School, Ferrum College, Virginia Tech, Radford University and the University of Virginia. He was also a U.S. Army Veteran. He retired as a public school administrator after 37 years of service. Surviving are his wife, Carolyn Pilla Nolen of Rocky Mount; son, C.B. Nolen III and wife Lisa and their children, Vika, Masha, and Vitya of Marion, Illinois; a daughter, Stacy Volles and husband David and their children, Nolen and Nicholas of Charlottesville, Va.; sister, Belle Cooper and husband Bobby and their children, Cathy, Mac, Sam, and Taz. Graveside services will be conducted from Mountain View Memorial Park 2 p.m. Monday with Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Franklin County Humane Society, 18401 Virgil H. Goode Highway, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151 or to a favorite charity. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
