Claude Wiley Meeks, of Rocky Mount, went to be with the Lord Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at the age of 79. Claude was born January 16, 1931, son of the late Joe and Ebbie Meeks. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Dreama Guyanne Meeks; father–in-law and mother-in-law, Harry & Blanche Young. He is survived by his devoted wife of 60 years, Peggy Meeks; three sons and daughter-in-law, Robert and Marian Meeks, Gary Meeks, Tommy Meeks; two daughters and son-in-law, Amanda King, Diane Meeks and Wade Hodges. He will be missed by his seven grandchildren and three great-grandchildren, as well as two brothers and sisters-in-law, Merlin and Ruby Meeks, J.H. and Betty Meeks. He will also be missed by his “brothers and sisters” in the Young family. Claude served in the Army and National Guard. After that, he spent over 30 years as a dump truck driver and owner. Driving the truck and the people he met while doing so were a great joy to him. He was a wonderful father and a generous person, as well as an active member of Ebenezer Baptist Church. Funeral services will be conducted from Ebenezer Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Friday with Dr. William Shively officiating.
