Clinton Hodges, 82, of Rocky Mount, Va., was welcomed into the arms of his Lord and Savior on Sunday, January 30, 2011 following a long and courageous battle with cancer. Clinton was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother and friend to many. After retiring with more than 30 years of service as a truck driver for MW, you could find him in the garden riding his Farmall tractor "digging taters", in the yard playing with his grandchildren, on the carport watching the ballgames, or at Hodgesville Heating and Air bending metal. A member of Doe Run Christian Church for over 50 years, Clinton spent more than 30 years as a Sunday School teacher, Deacon and Elder, and recently became a member of Henry Fork Church of the Brethren.
Clinton is survived by his loving wife, Mae Hodges, to whom he was married to for 61 years; his children, Harvey Hodges (Linda), Harold (special friend Shelia), Kerry Hodges (Carole), Joyce Kennedy (Don), Stella Altice, Greg Hodges (Valeria); 14 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; brothers, Jack Hodges (Elvyn), Fred Hodges, Lloyd Thomas Hodges (Marlene), Curtis "Trixie" Hodges (Joyce), Walter L. Hodges (Betty); sisters, Betty Hamblett, Shirley Bowles (Paul); sister-in-law, Virginia Hodges; numerous nieces and nephews; special friend, Keith Campbell; and special companion, Gracie.
Clinton was a mentor of the community. His home was always open and everyone was welcome. Clinton was preceded in death by his parents, William "Bill" and Maggie Hammock Hodges, brothers, William J. Hodges, Jr., Samuel E. Hodges, John "Joe, Hodges, sisters, Nannie Kate Turner, and Virginia H. Welding, great-grandchildren, Michael and Joshua Mullins and mother-in-law, Mazor Hodges.
In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Henry Fork Church Building fund or Blue Ridge Cancer Center. Funeral services will be conducted from Henry Fork Church of the Brethren 11 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the Robertson Family Cemetery. His family will receive friends 6 to 8 p.m. Monday at the Henry Fork Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
