Clyde Edward Hodges, age 84 of Rocky Mount, passed away Saturday, August 1, 2009. He was born September 18, 1924 a son of the late Charlie and Lucy Ida Hodges. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 56 years, Beulah Cooper Hodges; brothers and sisters, Edgar, William, Johnny Lee, Eunice and Rachel. He was a member of Oak Grove Church of the Brethren (South) and was the First Power Mechanics Instructor at Franklin County High School. Later, Clyde was the supervisor of the Maintenance Department with the Franklin County School System until retirement. Following his retirement he enjoyed woodworking, building and refinishing furniture. Surviving are three sons and daughters-in-law, George and Brenda Hodges, Kenny and Debbie Hodges, Bruce Hodges; special daughter, Brenda Peters and husband Roger; four grandchildren, Christopher (Kristy), Gregory (Angellena), Bradley (Laurie), and Tanner; six great-grandchildren, Adaline, Colette, Mitchell, Hayden, Skyllar and Clayton; brothers, Junior (Peggy) Hodges, Walter (Martha) Hodges, Jackie (Verna Mae) Hodges; sisters, Elizabeth Overstreet, Dorothy Walker, Nadine King, Margie Freeman and Loretta Prillaman; many nieces and nephews; special friends, Margie Davis and family, Daniel Webster,Stover Webster, Karen Kinsey, Susan Shively, Maygen and Summer, along with all his Power Mechanics students and many, many other friends. Special thanks to Dr. Hagy, Dr. Inhorn, Dr. Heath, Dr. Patterson, Dr. Gaylord, Dr. Swanson, and the nursing staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Center, 10th floor Oncology, ICU & PCU at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, August 4, 2009 from Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Thomas and Rev. Curtis English officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. 3097, Martinsville, Virginia 24115 or to Oak Grove Church of the Brethren (South), Building Fund, c/o Rissa Craighead, 6183 Dillons Mill Road, Callaway, Virginia 24067.
