David Cornelius Flora, only child of Cecil Ramon Flora and Essie Anderson Flora was born September 15, 1929 and died peacefully at his home in Boones Mill on Sunday, February 10, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents and his loving, devoted wife of 66 years, Janie Patricia Bowman Flora on April 26, 2015. He was a lifetime member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren. He worked at Red Line Trucking and then Roadway Express, enjoying driving and delivering freight in Roanoke from 1956 until his retirement in 1992. He and Janie were NASCAR fans and enjoyed many bus trips with friends to Daytona, Talladega and Michigan. Left to cherish his memory are his sons, Gary D. Flora, Van L. Flora; his daughter, Debbie F. Altice and her husband, Barry Lee Altice; grandchildren are Michael David Flora and his wife, Faith, Justin Lee Altice and his wife, Marcie, Karen Altice Stutzman and her husband, Paul, Caleb Boone Flora, and Patricia Flora Crawford and her husband, Justin; great-grandchildren whom he called his “Chaps” are, Kaylee Grace Stutzman, Grayson Lee Altice, Jonah Carson Flora, Caitlyn Marcella Altice and Joshua Bryce Stutzman. Thank you to the staff at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital and Carilion Hospice for their loving care, especially Helen Wilcox. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren Food 4 Future Program in memory of David Cornelius Flora and his wife Janie because daddy was always concerned about hungry children. A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, February 13, 2019 at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 2363 Brick Church Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151 with Pastor Greg Broyles and Pastor Paul Stutzman officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
