Curtis Lee Campbell, age 90 of Rocky Mount departed this earthly life on Tuesday, February 4, 2014. He was born December 29, 1923 on a farm in Redwood to Joseph and Mary Chitwood Campbell. He was also preceded in death by his brothers and sisters, Howard, Ted, Maynard, Sam, Carlton, Richard Campbell, Annie Mae Davis, Doris Thurman; and spouses, Gladys Willie and Shirley Ramsey. Curtis served in the United States Army in Germany during World War II from 1946 to 1947 as a Medic Driver. Curtis worked for many years in the textile industry. After retiring as a supervisor at the Vinton Weaving Mill he enjoyed farming, his time going to the Old Fiddlers Convention in Galax and following the trail of the Crooked Road playing in many old time string bands. Curtis was loved by his surviving family including his son and daughter-in-law, Danny and Reva Campbell; grandchildren, Cory and Chasity; sisters-in-law, Nannie Kate Thurman and Catherine Campbell; and lots of nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors. Memorial services will be conducted at Redwood United Methodist Church at 11 a.m. Saturday, February 15, 2014 with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the local VFW (Veterans of Foreign Wars). Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
