Howard Curtis Scott, age 76, of Rocky Mount, passed away Saturday, June 29, 2013. Curtis, a life-long Christian man, was a charter member of Franklin Heights Baptist Church where he served as Sunday School teacher, member of various committees and deacon. He was a member of the National Guard, Future Farmers of America and the Christian Heritage Academy Board. Curtis was preceded in death by his parents Tom and Era Scott, wife Shirley Scott and sisters Delsie Goggin and Bessie Goode. Surviving are brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law John and Vera Emerson, Percy and Lucille Shelor, Raymond and Vivian Scott. Also surviving are his son, Howard Lee Scott and wife Rita of Rocky Mount; daughter Amy Scott Ayres and fiancée Ken of Philadelphia, PA; grandsons Chris Scott and wife Crystal of Roanoke; Joseph Ayres of Philadelphia, PA; great-grandson, Bryce Scott of Roanoke; other nieces and nephews and many friends at Franklin Heights Baptist Church and Crosspointe. Curtis was a dairy farmer for over 50 years with Registered Holsteins. Memorials may be made to Franklin Heights Baptist Church, 110 Hilltop Drive, Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 2, 2013 at Franklin Heights Baptist Church with Dr. Stan Parris and the Rev. J. Larry Holland officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive friends from 5-8 PM Monday (July 1) at Franklin Heights Baptist Church.
