Curtis began his working life at Garst Brothers Dairy and then Norfolk and Western Railroad, and he delighted in telling stories from his railroading days. In 1944, he returned to the family farm where he and his brother Pat ran a successful dairy operation for more than 60 years.
He was a deacon and life-long member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren and was a much-loved mentor to many in that community.
At the end of every day, Curtis could be seen, ramrod straight, striding from the dairy barn to his house. He was a man of the land, a quiet observer of the seasons who took pride in a straight corn row, tight wire fences and a day’s work well done.
Funeral services will be conducted from Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren 2:00 P.M. Thursday, September 23, 2010 with Pastor Bruce Huffman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. In lieu of flowers please make contributions to Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren at 2363 Brick Church Road, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
