Daniel Elbert Allen Sr.

Daniel Elbert Allen, Sr., age 84 of Ferrum, Virginia went to be with his Lord on Thursday, December 10, 2015. Dan was preceded in death by his parents, Lizzie Nolen Allen & Ferd Allen; sisters, Cassie Gillespie & Pauline Radford; and brother, Buford Allen. Dan was born in the Endicott section of Franklin County, Virginia and served in the Army during the Korean War. He enjoyed hunting and farming. Whether he was driving or working in the garden, he always had time to wave to those passing by. Dan retired from the American Furniture Company with 36 years of service which included being a supervisor in the finishing room. As a member of Providence Baptist Church, he served as a Deacon, Brotherhood member, and Sunday School Superintendent. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Frances Ramsey Allen; daughter, Rosalind Strader of Ferrum; son and daughter-in-law, Tommy & Melisa Allen of Bassett; son and daughter-in-law, Tim & Judy Allen of Rocky Mount; and son and daughter-in-law, Danny & Jacqueline Allen of Ferrum. Dan was blessed with eight grandchildren, Michael (Misty), Zach, Taylor, Blake, Kane, Lizzie, Ruth, and Savannah. He is also survived by his brother, Seward Allen of Abingdon, VA; sister, Frances “Rosetta” Rector of Ridgeway, VA; and brother-in-law, James Radford of Ridgeway, VA. Dan was also blessed with several nieces and nephews. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Providence Baptist Church, 2861 Providence Church Road, Henry, VA 24102 in Dan’s name. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2:30 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Eugene Chitwood and Chaplain Rick Poland officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service on Sunday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
