Daniel Douglas Nunley "Silver Fox," 82 years of age, of Rocky Mount, VA, passed away peacefully on December 8, 2019, surrounded by his family at Wake Forest Baptist Hospital, Winston Salem, NC.
Daniel was born to Cleo Clyburn in War, WV on October 31, 1937. He was always so proud that his birthday was on Halloween! Daniel served in the US Army from 1957-1959 and took up a long term carrier of truck driving. He loved spending time during the week days down at Lucky 2 gas station where he drank his black coffee and enjoyed spending time with friends. Later in the afternoon he would watch westerns, Fox News, Matlock, and Walker Texas Ranger. On the weekends he spent his time at car shows showing off his Pink 1942 Plymouth and watching NASCAR. Many of his nights were spent catering to his granddaughter Nelle Leigh, fetching lemonade, roughhousing, or simply snuggling in his chair.
Daniel was preceded in death by his mother, Cleo Clyburn; two brothers, Dewey and Paul Jr.; three sisters, Ella Mae, Marcy, and Christine; and two grandchildren. He leaves behind his sisters, Jean Ferguson and Dolly Hunt; step-brother, Gene Barrigar; his children, Janet Kidwell, Regina Nunley, Nancy Nunley, James Nunley and wife Catherine, and Earnest Nunley; 11 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. He was loved dearly and will be greatly missed. Funeral services will be at Flora Funeral Chapel, 2:00 p.m. Thursday, December 12, 2019 with Pastor Eddie Hawks officiating. Interment with military honors will follow in family cemetery. His family will receive friends beginning at 1:00 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
