Darius "Dee" Plunkett, age 103 of Boones Mill, VA, passed peacefully to his heavenly home Wednesday, October 20, 2021, surrounded by his family. He was a lifetime member of Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 66 years, Mildred Naff Plunkett. They had a remarkable loving bond that was apparent to all who knew them and worked together as partners in their life's work of dairy farming. He was also preceded by his parents, Dean Stanley Plunkett and Georgianna Flora Plunkett; twin brother, Jairus "Jay" Plunkett; and sisters, Dorothy Hill, Virginia Sink, and Alvena Edens. He is survived by his loving family: daughters and sons-in-law, Vicki and James "Mike"Hartsel, Trudy and Don Whitlock; grandson, Steve Wirt and wife Katie; granddaughter, Lisa Wirt Lyle; great-grandchildren, William Wirt, Hanna Lyle, Natalie Wirt and Sally Lyle; a sister, Alvera Plunkett Abshire; grandson-in-law, George Lyle; and many nieces and nephews. His life has been a blessing and an inspiration to this family and many others. Our family would like to sincerely thank his caregivers who loved him and cared for him with kindness and respect. Also, we want to thank Carilion Hospice for their excellent services and the comfort provided to our family. Funeral services will be conducted at Germantown Brick Church of the Brethren, 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 26, 2021 with Pastor Greg Broyles officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. His family will receive friends one hour prior to the service. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount, VA.
