Darren Scott Rakestraw, age 36 of Franklin County departed this life for his new eternal home on Monday, May 19, 2008.
Born September 15, 1971 to Larry Rakestraw and Linda Robinson. Scott was an Eagle Scout and a Brotherhood member of the Order of the Arrow. He was preceded in death by his grandparents, Thomas Dale and Mavis Rakestraw and James Leo Caldwell.
Surviving are his wife, Malisa (Pugh) Rakestraw; daughters, Chelsea and Alyssa (Nikki) Rakestraw of the home; special pet, Lucky; parents, Larry Rakestraw and wife Debra, Linda Robinson and husband Sam; sister Wendy Ayers and husband Lionel; grandmother Elizabeth Caldwell; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Marshall and Carol Pugh; brother and sister-in-law, Marshall “Ray” Jr., and Donna Pugh; nieces, Amber Pugh and Hannah Ayers; nephew, Isaiah Ayers; several aunts and uncles.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday with Pastors Gary Hoffman and Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund has been established for the benefit of his children. Contributions may be made in Chelsea and Nikki Rakestraw’s name to: Member One Federal Credit Union, 40 Member One Way, Rocky Mount, VA 24151.
Friends may call after 3 p.m. Thursday with his family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, VA and other times at the home of Marshall and Carol Pugh.
