David B. Hart

David B. Hart, of Hardy, Virginia, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2022 after a long illness. Born in Jackson, Miss., he was predeceased by his parents, Albert J. Barge and Helen B. Hart.

A 1953 graduate of George Wythe High School, David worked for the US Forest Service as a logger in Idaho and Alaska, and was a U.S. Army Veteran as a paratrooper in the 82nd Airborne Div. David graduated from George Washington University School of Law in 1966 and was devoted to the practice of law in Roanoke and Rocky Mount. He was a 50-year member of the Virginia State Bar. He enjoyed life, making people laugh, and was dedicated to his many canine pets.

To cherish his memory he leaves behind Neva, his wife of 35 years; son, William (Laurie) of Roanoke; daughter, Lisa Merkel (Michael DeMatteis) in Charleston, S.C.; son, Jonathan (Holly) of Bent Mountain; and four grandchildren, John G. Merkel IV, David B. Hart, Kristin H. Merkel, and Chloe G. Hart.

Private services will be held at a later date. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
