David Earl Motley 73, of Martinsville, VA, died on March 6, 2022, at Mulberry Creek Assisted Living Home. He was born on February 10, 1949, in Snow Creek, Virginia, to the late Henry Glenwood “Jim” Motley and Nina Brodie Motley. He was also preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Lee Motley. He is survived by his wife, Wanda L. Motley of the home; son, James Motley (Elizabeth) and grandson Luke from Martinsville; daughter Tina Horsley of Altavista and her children, Jonathan, Nicole, and Joshua; and step-son Daniel R. Sullivan of Virginia Beach. He is also survived by his sister Marilyn M. Smith (David) of Snow Creek; and many nieces and nephews. David attended school in Franklin County. He served in the US Army during the Vietnam Era from 1969-1972 where he received a Purple Heart. David was a tobacco farmer in Snow Creek until working at DuPont until 1987. He was of the Christian faith and was a member of First Baptist Church of Ridgeway. He was a member of the VFW. David was an avid baseball fan and card collector. He loved playing bingo. Funeral services will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m., Thursday, March 10, 2022 with Pastor Lewis Harris and Pastor Robert Young officiating. Interment will follow at the Brodie/Motley Cemetery in Snow Creek. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
