David Plybon Oakes, age 54 of Snow Creek, born on July 4, 1961, passed away peacefully at home on Veteran's Day, November 11, 2015 which was very appropriate, being the true patriot that he was. He was a caring and devoted son, brother, uncle, and friend. David was a lover of knowledge, history, politics, music, good books, and the latest and greatest techno gadgets. He was committed to helping others. This was reflected by the countless hours given both volunteering with the Snow Creek Rescue Squad and the time he spent educating other EMS providers. He proudly achieved the title of paramedic and then Registered Nurse. Regardless of the hat he was wearing, he gave his all. He was loved and respected by many. His kind nature, big heart, quick wit, and sense of humor will be sadly missed. David was preceded in death by his father, Letcher Oakes; grandparents, S.H. and Ruby Plybon and T.C. and Lula Oakes; and his brother-in-law, Garry Thurman. David is survived by his mother, Ruby Plybon Oakes; brothers, Steve Oakes and Delores and Terry Oakes and Rita; sisters, Donna Thurman and Johnny Simms, Jr., Kathy Hatchett and Tony, Patty Deatherage and Butch; nieces and nephews, Nicole and Wayne, Brandon and Anya, Dustin and Michelle, Mara and Kevin, Leanne, Bryce, Blake, Jamie, and Chad; great-nephews and niece, Brodey, Jalen, Christian, Landon, and Brooke; cousins and his special CFMH family. Memorials may be donated to the Franklin County Free Clinic or the charity of your choice.
