Dean Anthony Carter, age 45, son of Ray Carter of Wirtz, and Bernice Hedrick of Sandy Level passed away at 11:45 p.m. on Thursday, December 13, 2007 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital of a stroke. Dean was born August 20, 1962 in Rocky Mount, Virginia. He is survived by his daughter, the LOVE of his life, Nicole Ashley Carter, 7, of Huntsville Al., his grandmother Janie Shoemaker of Sandy Level, his Stepfather Ted Hedrick, step-sister Kristie, step-brother Travis, his sister Amanda Carter and Joey Hale of Sandy Level, his sister, Trenda Carter Leavitt and Jim Leavitt, Niece & Nephew Ellena and William Leavitt of Bedford. Former wife Sherry Carter Brewer, of Huntsville, AL. former mother-and fathers-in- law, Mary and Eddie McCall and Donald Nichols, former brother-in-law and sister-in-law Ben and Michelle McCall, and Donna, Aunts and Uncles Debi and Michael Grim, Lawrence and Clara Dalton, Ileta and Frank Peters, Paulina Still, Nellie Kritter, Fay and Dillard Fisher, Charlie Noel Carter, Reba Carter, Arlene Carter, Vera LaPrade, Mildred Jones, Cecil and Nancy Perdue, and very special friends Timmy, H.B., Jim, Jeff, Sandra, Sharon, Susan, Helen, John, Richard, Che-Chee, and his many friends at Wal-Mart, and numerous cousins. He was predeceased by grandparents Charlie and Gladys Carter, Jack Dalton, and Harvey and Ella Perdue. Dean was employed 20 years by the Wal-Mart Corporation and previously had lived in Texas, Colorado, and Turkey. He was dearly loved and was a kind and loving father, son, and brother. He loved life and had that great contagious laugh which everyone enjoyed. Dean will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him. There was only one Dean – he made the world laugh. His family would like to thank our family and friends, the staff of the ER, the ICU nurses, and neurosurgery department of Roanoke Memorial Hospital, Rev. Mark Griffith, and Trinity Ecumenical Parish for their support, prayers, and kindness during our sudden and tragic loss. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Monday, December 17, 2007 with Re. Mark Griffith officiating. Interment will follow in The Perdue Family Cemetery in Union Hall. The family will receive friends Sunday from 4 to 6 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
