Delmar James Fletcher, 67, of Glade Hill went home to be with his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, November 18, 2014. Del was born on June 28, 1947 in Staunton, Illinois to the late James B. Fletcher and Virginia Rhodes Bair. He is also preceded in death by his sister, Phyllis Miller and brother, Stephen Fletcher. He worked for the Department of Veterans Affairs and retired after 31 years. He served his country proudly in the United States Marines for eight years. Del was a member of the Henry Fork Church of the Brethren and loved his church and the church family. Del is survived by his wife of 41 years, Kathy Keaton Fletcher; son, Christopher James Fletcher and his beautiful granddaughters, Bethany, Aubrey and Gabrielle Fletcher. His granddaughters were the light of his life. He is also survived by a sister, Betty Monti of Staunton, Illinois, sister-in-law and brother-in-law, Mary Ann and Jim Greenway and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to thank all the physicians, nurses and staff at Roanoke Memorial Hospital in the Neuro Trauma ICU for their wonderful care and overflowing compassion not only for Del during his illness but for his family as well. In addition, a big thank you to Drs. Brizel and Dunphy and their staff at Duke Medical Center in the times he was treated there for their love and compassion for him and his family. The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Thursday, November 20, 2014 at Henry Fork Church of the Brethren in Rocky Mount, Virginia. The funeral will be held on Friday, November 21, 2014 at 11:00 a.m. at Henry Fork Church of the Brethren with Pastor Ronald Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
