Despain W. Walters

Despain William Walters, age 85 of Callaway, Va. went to be with his Lord on Friday morning, July 24, 2009 at Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Preceded in death by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Katie Cartee Walters, parents, Joe and Della Walters, brothers, Sam, Tom, Wesley and Stanley Walters, sisters Annie Bowles, Minnie Holland, Violet Brown, Ida Helms and Pat Holland. Also a true friend and son-in-law, Dempsey Young. Dee served his country in the U.S. Navy during World War II and the Air Force during the Korean War. He flew on 30 missions while in the Air Force. He was always dedicated to his family and will be remembered as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend. He was a kind and generous person who will be greatly missed. Left to cherish wonderful memories are his loving wife, Betty Agee Walters; three sons, Billy (Sharon) Walters of Lynchburg, Bobby (Debbie) Walters of Georgia, and Blaine (Helen) Walters of Bedford; one daughter, Janice (Rodney) Bowles of Callaway; step-daughters, Lynette Young of Boones Mill, Michelle Gibson of Callaway, Tonya (Tim) Semones of Maryland, and Kim (Sam) Sifers of Tennessee; one sister, Essie Guilliams of Yorktown; grandchildren, David, Randy, Christopher Despain Walters, Rodney Lee Bowles Jr., Jessi and Hannah Walters, Lori Lee Walters; great-granddaughters, Amaya Walters, Joanna Walters step-granddaughters, Brandy Guy and Jennifer Turner, Stephanie, Demetra Young, LeAnna Meador, Kristin and Alyssa Semones; step-grandsons, Christopher and Doug Young, David Guy, Nathan Sifers; step-great-grandchildren Logan, Ashton, Reesce; sister-in-law, Lottie Walters; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 2:00 p.m. Sunday at Flora Funeral Chapel with Rev. Richard Walters officiating. Interment will follow at Walters Family Cemetery, Callaway. In lieu of flowers, donations to Piedmont Presbyterian Church in Callaway, Va. can be made in Dee’s honor.
