Dewey Enoch Prillaman, age 81 of Glade Hill went home to be with the Lord Saturday, December 25, 2010 peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Dewey was born July 24, 1929 to the late Lester and Ethel Prillaman. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Melvin and Carlton Prillaman; and sisters, Eva Kingery, Lula Webb, Edith Brown and Lillian Richmond. He was a beloved husband, father, grandfather and friend. Dewey was a well known musician whose specialty was playing the fiddle, although he could play about any musical instrument. He shared these talents later in life with the 96 music students he taught over the years. He was a longtime member of the DQ Band and was on the committee for the Crooked Road. He was a Scoutmaster and the first president of the Glade Hill Fire Department. He was also an extraordinary woodcrafter who handcrafted beautiful pieces of furniture, cabinets and musical instruments. Dewey is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 56 years, Nancy Belcher Prillaman; three sons, Eddy Dewey Prillaman and wife Penny of Glade Hill, Roger Enoch Prillaman and his wife Melinda of Wirtz, Jerry Lynn Prillaman and special friend Donna Cannaday of Henry; grandchildren, Kristy Buckles (Bill), Patrick Prillaman (Jennifer), Nicholas Prillaman, Jessica Prillaman, Jamie Prillaman, Annie Prillaman, Zane Prillaman and Maggie Prillaman; six great-grandchildren; sisters-in-law, Gertrude Prillaman, Darlene Campbell (Buford), Sandra Cooper, Judy Swanson (Don); brother-in-law, Preston Belcher (Bonnie); numerous nieces and nephews. A special thanks to Pastor Steve Pasley of Mount Ivy Christian Church and the entire staff of Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital for the outpouring show of love, care and support. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Wednesday with Minister Steve Pasley officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial donations be made to Mount Ivy Christian Church, 5120 Scruggs Road, Moneta, Virginia 24121 where Dewey was a devoted member or to a charity of one’s choice. His family will receive friends 5-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
