D.M. Layman, Jr., age 85 of Wirtz went home to be with the Lord Tuesday, October 28, 2014. He was the son of Dee Morton and Lydia (Peters) Layman and was born June 18, 1929. He accepted Christ as his Savior and was baptized into the Old German Baptist Brethren Church April 1942 to which he remained faithful. Surviving are his wife of 67 years, Etheleen (Dillon) Layman; three sons and two daughters, Richard and wife Peggy Layman of Covington, OH, Kenneth and wife Brenda Layman of Wirtz, Patricia and husband Donald Brubaker of Rocky Mount, Barbara L. Yarber of Durham, NC, Harold and wife Theresa Layman of Wirtz; 14 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; two great-great grandchildren; two step-grandchildren; four step-great-grandchildren; three great-great-step-grandchildren; sister, Marie Filburn of Pendleton, IN; sister-in-law, Dorothy Layman of Wirtz; brother-in-law, Frances Lair of New Carlisle, OH. He loved his family. Preceding him in death are three brothers and spouses; Ezra Layman, Paul Layman (Helen), Bill Layman (Mildred); three sisters and spouses, Orpha Austin (Alfred), Reva Rumble (Lawrence), Glenna Lair; one brother-in-law; one still born brother. Our special thanks to his caregivers, Judea (Penny) Williams and Theresa Layman. Junior?s occupations were a part-time farmer and full-time for 42 years at Walker Machine Foundry in Roanoke. His hobbies included hunting, fishing, basket weaving, and woodworking. He was also a bus driver for Franklin County Public Schools. Funeral services will be held at Oak Hill Old German Baptist Brethren Church 10 a.m. Thursday with the Home Brethren officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family request that flowers be omitted and memorial contributions be made to Carilion Hospice, American Alzheimer?s Association or Parkinson?s Disease Foundation. His family will receive friends 2-5 p.m. and 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at Oak Hill Church, (101 Elam Lane, Boones Mill, VA 24065) Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
