Donald Ray Corron, age 83, of Moneta, Va. died on Thursday, October 18, 2018 in Roanoke, Va. He was preceded in death by his parents, Carl D. Corron and Elizabeth "Lib" Corron; his loving wife, Lolene Hodges Corron. Surviving are his son and daughter-in-law, David Corron (Leslie); grandchildren, Hanna and Haley Corron; sisters, Gay Strickler, Carol Linkenhoker, Mary Sue Morris (Jerry); and many nieces and nephews. Ray retired after 32 years of service with Ferrum College as a math professor and the golf coach. Prior to Ferrum he taught math and coached multiple sports at Franklin County High School, Floyd County High School, Marion High School and Bethel High School. He also served in the U.S. Army in Ft. Richardson, Alaska. He graduated from Clifton Forge High School in 1954, received his B.A in mathematics from Emory & Henry College in 1958, his Masters from Radford University and Doctoral Studies at Virginia Tech. Funeral Services will be conducted at Flora Funeral Chapel 11:00 a.m. Monday October 22, 2018. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Lolene Corron Scholarship Fund, c/o Ferrum College. HIs family will receive friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Monday at Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
