Donald Gene Maddy, age 69 of Rocky Mount passed away Saturday, October 10, 2015. He was preceded in death by his mother and step-father, Shirley and Jesse Lynch. Donald was a devoted husband, father and church member his entire life. Donald worked at Cooper Wood Products all but a few years of his career with a purpose, as he would say “the job will get done.” Donald was an active member of Furnace Creek Baptist Church where he served in many capacities including, Children’s Sunday School Director, audio/video ministry leader and Deacon with very few times the doors open that Donald was not there. Donald loved the Lord and others much more than himself, he never turned away a need for help by anyone and took care of others around him with enormous love and compassion. Donald was a competitive athlete. He played high school sports and for most of his life loved the game of golf with his best friends. He was also a United States Navy Veteran serving on the U.S.S. EL Paso for four years. Surviving are his loving wife of 46 years, Betty Maddy; son, Brian Maddy (Vicky); grandchildren, Bria Maddy and Braelyn Maddy; brothers and sisters-in-law, Dan Maddy and wife Becky, David Maddy and wife Rebecca, Dennis Maddy and Doug Maddy; father, Harold Maddy; extended family including his brothers-in-law, Billy Lynch and C.W. Thomas; sister-in-law, Gail Thomas; mother-in-law, Gladys Lynch; and special friend, Bobby Hodges. Funeral services will be conducted at Furnace Creek Baptist Church 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, October 13, 2015 with Rev. Mark Griffith and Pastor C.W. Thomas officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Monday at Furnace Creek Baptist Church. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
