Donald Otey

Donald Gene Otey, (Big O) of Rocky Mount, Virginia went to be with his Heavenly Father on September 5, 2013 at Duke University Hospital surrounded by his loving family. He was preceded in death by his father Kyle Otey, brother Duane Otey, mother and father-in-law Raymond and Erma Reynolds, left to cherish his memory are his wife and soul mate of 31 years Cindy Reynolds Otey of the home, mother Lura W. Otey of Wirtz, children Melissa Kirk and husband John, of Forest, son Michael Otey of Winston Salem, NC special grandson Ian Kirk, aunt Virgie Bausman, uncle Henry Wray sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Debbie Walker, Carolyn Bowles, Barbara Renick, Joe Ann Belcher, Drucille Cassell, Gary Reynolds (Barbara), Larry Reynolds (Diane), three special nephews, Josh Walker , Chad Bowles and Billy Davis, numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Don retired from Norfolk & Southern Railroad with 27 years of dedicated service. He was a committed member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church where he served on the baptismal committee as well as the social committee. Don?s passion was antique and classic cars, fishing, hunting and working in the garage. The thing he enjoyed most was spending time with his grandson, Ian. Funeral services will be conducted at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 11:00 A.M. Monday, September 9, 2013 with Pastor Joe Dillon officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. His family will receive friends 5-7 P.M. Sunday at Sandy Ridge Baptist Church. The family suggests memorials be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, VA 24l5l.
