Doris Powell Nutter

Doris Powell Nutter, age 91 of Rocky Mount died Monday, April 9, 2012. She was a veteran of the U. S. Marine Corps – Women’s Reserve. She was retired from the U.S. Government with 24 years service as an Accounting Clerk and Editorial Assistant. Doris was born October 17, 1920 a daughter of the late Henry and Mary Belle Frith Powell. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Donald Nutter; brother and sister-in-law, William and Evelyn Powell; sister, Hazel Ogle; and sister-in-law, Iris Powell; brother-in-law, Leon Carter. Surviving are her step-daughters, Lynda Sauer of Cedar Edge, CO, Pamela Davis of Airville, PA; sisters and brother-in-law, Barbara and George Dunkley of Gladys, VA, Elizabeth Carter of Rocky Mount, Nancy Duffy of Windsor, NC; brothers and sister-in-law, James and Carmel Powell of Rocky Mount, Clifford N. Powell of Rocky Mount; numerous nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Thursday with Dr. Stan Parris officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to a charity of one’s choice. Her family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
