DOROTHY FAYE “Dot” CARTER, 63, of Collinsville, and formerly of Ferrum, VA, died peacefully on Sunday, January 23, 2011, at Martinsville Memorial Hospital.
She was preceded in death by her father, Millard G. Carter; paternal grandparents, Flint & Alzie Carter; and maternal grandparents, Walter & Martha Sloan.
She is survived by her mother, Ethel Sloan Carter, of the home; brother and sister-in-law, Kennith G Sr. and Erma Webb Carter, Collinsville; two nieces, Daphne Carter Arseneault (David), Va Beach, and Sherry Carter Crawford (Tim), Jacksonville, FL; two nephews, Kenny Carter, Jr. (Carolyn) and Bryant Carter (Kristi), both of Collinsville; three great-nieces; four great-nephews; numerous cousins, and many other relatives and friends.
Dorothy was born November 11, 1947, as a special needs child to Millard & Ethel Carter. She loved spending time on the front porch in a rocking chair with her constant companion, a pocket transistor radio. Some of her favorite things were babies, Mountain Dew, and the color red.
The family wishes to extend a special thank you to all of the caring staff at A Nurse’s Touch.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 1:00 pm Wednesday with Elders Junior Conner and Alan Terry officiating. Interment will follow in the Sloan Family Cemetery in Ferrum.
Visiting hours will be held after 4pm Tuesday with the family receiving friends from 6-8 pm at Flora Funeral Service, South Main Street, Rocky Mount and other times at the home.
