Dorothy E. “Dot” Mullen, age 89 of Rocky Mount died Friday, April 27, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband, Harry P. Mullen, Sr.; parents, J. D. and Birdie May Hodnett; sister, Jeanne; and brother, Teddy. Dot worked many years as a Nurse’s Aide in the Maternity Unit at Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital. She was an active member of the Hospital Auxiliary and the Boones Mill Garden Club. Dot helped establish the Franklin County Hospice program and the Love Light Tree. She enjoyed volunteering for Social Services and was actively involved in Scouting, and PTA. “Dots Tots,” a private kindergarten which she founded, kept her busy for many years. She enjoyed playing bridge, gardening, and tending her flowers. She was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church where she served on the altar guild as well as chairing other committees. Survivors include her daughter, Linda M. Mullen; son, Harry Patrick Mullen, Jr. and wife Happy; grandchildren, Joshua Menard, Leah Fink, Sarah Menard, Rob Drewer, Sarah Thomas, Michael Drewer, Emily Mullen and Matthew Mullen; great-grandchildren, Natalie, Madeline, and Lilah Fink, Mirabella Menard, Sultan Herrnandez, Jordan, Emma, and Isabella Drewer. Funeral services will be conducted from Trinity Episcopal Church 3 p.m. Sunday with Co-Rectors Rev. John and Rachel Gardner and Rev. Van T. Renick officiating. Interment will be private in Franklin Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Carilion Hospice of Franklin County, 390 South Main Street, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
