Dorothy C. Ramsey, age 94 of Rocky Mount passed away Wednesday morning, February 11, 2009.
She was born in Hanover County, W.VA. May 6, 1914 a daughter of the late Anthony and Rebecca Shaffer Crabtree. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Leonard Stafford Ramsey; son, Herbert Lee Ramsey; granddaughter, Jacqueline Moore; three great-grandchildren, Rebecca Fields, Timmy Dononvant, Ally Bullins; four brothers, Girly, Jake, Lewis and Lawrence Crabtree; three sisters, Annie England, Pansy Green, Amanda Amos; daughter-in-law, Avis Gardner Ramsey; and son-in-law, Howard Hylton.
Mrs. Ramsey is survived by her one brother, George Crabtree of Logan Co., W.VA.; three sons, Franklin Doug Ramsey of Bassett, James Andrew Ramsey and George Kenneth Ramsey both of Rocky Mount; four daughters, Verdie Conway and husband Wilson of Bassett, Phyllis Hylton of Patrick Springs, Naomi Ramsey and life partner Ray Radford of Rocky Mount, Dreama Mullins and husband Guy of Rocky Mount; 15 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; four great-great-grandchildren; special grandchildren, Samantha and Zack Linkous; daughter-in-law, Brenda Ramsey; three sisters-in-law, Madeline Crabtree of Logan Co. W.VA., Aileen Odell of Bassett, Verna Ramsey of Rocky Mount; many nieces and nephews.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday. Interment will follow in Henry Memorial Park.
The family request that memorial contributions be made to the Alzheimer’s Association, 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill. 60601-7633 or to the American Heart Association, 4504 Starkey Road, SW Suite 115, Roanoke, VA 24014.
Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Thursday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
