Dorothy Shelton Bowles, age 82 of Boones Mill, went to be with the Lord Sunday, February 15, 2009 at her home.
She was born August 17, 1926 a daughter of the late Jack and Nettie Gusler Shelton. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Bertha Trettle and Virginia Shelton.
Mrs. Bowles was a longtime member of Boones Mill Baptist Church where she served in many capacities and was involved in many church activities. She was retired from Burlington Industries.
Surviving are her husband of 43 years, Clyde W. Bowles; sons, David W. Bowles, James E. Bowles, II and wife Rose; daughter, Robyn Bowles Wines and husband William; grandchildren, Carrie VanDenBerg, Whitney East, Paisley Bowles, Jason Wade, Matthew Wade; great-grandson, Travis Wade; many nieces, nephews and extended family.
The family wishes to thank the staff of Adult Healthcare, Good Samaritan Hospice, and all her wonderful caregivers that attended to her during her illness.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 11 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Jim Steele officiating. Interment will follow in Franklin Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations be made to Boones Mill Baptist Church, 10 Whispering Creek Road, Boones Mill, Virginia 24065 or to the Boones Mill Rescue Squad.
Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
