Douglas M. Powell

On Saturday morning, May 11, 2019, Douglas M. Powell departed this life to enter the Kingdom of Heaven. He was born April 23, 1942, in Pittsylvania County to the late Dessie Powell. He was educated in the Pittsylvania County School System.  He worked as a Farmer and Security Guard for Franklin Memorial Hospital. Duck loved going to car auctions with friends and driving across the Blue Ridge Parkway in the Fall. He was preceded in death by his mother, Dessie Powell and brother, Carl Hilton Powell Sr. Douglas was married to Patricia M. Claytor, which this union brought them their only child, Mrs. Tammy P. Williams.“Duck” as he was well known by his family and friends. He leaves to cherish is wonderful memories one daughter, Tammy (Greg) Williams of High Point, NC; three grandsons: Matthew Crumpton, of Washington, DC; Ryan Crumpton of Greensboro, NC; De' Vonn Crumpton of Winston Salem, NC. One great grandchild; Dasani Crumpton; one brother, Glen (Kaye) Powell of Salem, Va. ; one sister, Hazel George of Cincinnati, Ohio; a very special cousin, Guy James of Penhook, VA; three nieces, one nephew and a host of cousins, extended family and friends. A Homegoing Celebration will be held at Flora Funeral Chapel, 11:00 a.m. Thursday, May 16, 2019. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
