Elbert Marshall Blair, age 84 of Penhook passed away Friday, April 22, 2011. Marshall was born January 13, 1927 in Pittsylvania County. He owned and operated Blair’s Store in Penhook for 60 years. Marshall served in the Navy for two years in his younger life. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter and Florence Blair; brothers, William, Junior and Glenn Blair. He was also preceded in death by his wife, Kathryne Reynolds Blair. Left to cherish his memory are his daughter, Marsha Robertson and husband Charlie; granddaughter, Samantha Robertson and her fiancé, Samuel Smith. Also surviving are his sister, Barbara Reynolds and husband Blair; nieces, Jennifer Koogler and husband Gary, Glenda Gotshall and husband Joe; nephew, Tim Reynolds and wife Kim; great-nephews, Matthew and Benjamin Reynolds. Also numerous cousins. Marshall served multiple terms with the Franklin County Planning Commission as well as the West Piedmont Planning Commission. He was a member of Penhook United Methodist Church where he served on various committees. Marshall was a pillar in the community of Penhook. Special thank you to caregivers, Beth Collins, Glenda Dooley, Lynn Harrison, and good friend, Janet Richardson. Memorial services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Tuesday with Rev. Judith Short officiating. Inurnment will follow in Liberty Memorial Gardens, Sandy Level. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Penhook United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 215, Penhook, Virginia 24137. Friends and family will gather at Marshall’s home in Penhook on Monday, April 25th after 2 p.m. His family will also receive friends one hour prior to the service on Tuesday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
