Earnest "Dickey" Glenwood Mitchell, age 67 of Huddleston died Friday, August 1, 2014. He was born September 7, 1946 and was preceded in death by his wife, Dawn Mitchell; mother, Lucille Dykes; and niece, Melody. Surviving are his wife of five years, Jackie Fowler Mitchell; five brothers, David Dykes (Elle) of Petersburg, Thomas Dykes (Linda) of Blair, Jeffrey Dykes (Pat) of Ringgold, Harold Dykes (Janice) of Ringgold, Timothy Dykes (Angela) of Ringgold; sister, Barbara Mustin (Scot) of Dallas, GA; nephews, Jake and Dewey; nieces, Randi, Vickie, Sandy, Leslie; very very special friends, The Janney Family, Jeff Smith, The Fowler?s and The Brown?s. He was a United States Army Veteran serving in Vietnam and was employed by Pittsylvania County for many years before retiring from the Roanoke Times. He loved riding motorcycles, racing cars, great music and dancing. He had so many more friends and never met a stranger. Everyone was his friend for life. His family will receive friends 5-7 p.m. Wednesday with a service beginning at 7 p.m. at Flora Funeral Chapel, Rocky Mount. He will be missed by all who knew him.
