Edith Page Fisher Helms, age 86 of Roanoke and formerly of Callaway, Rocky Mount, Charlottesville, and Martinsville, died peacefully at home on Thursday, July 29, 2010. She was born in Rocky Mount on May 5, 1924 to the late Luther Milton and Lula Prillaman Fisher. Edith Page was foremost a homemaker, married 63 years to Jack Lawrence Helms until widowed in 2006. Second only to her family, church was her focus. She was an ardent lay woman active in Christian education, music ministry, and United Methodist Women at Highland United Methodist Church in Callaway, Wesley United Methodist Church in Martinsville, Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlottesville, and Rocky Mount United Methodist Church. After raising children she became a professional as the church secretary at Aldersgate United Methodist Church in Charlottesville. In recent years she joined South Roanoke United Methodist Church. She is survived by four children and their spouses, Judith Helms Budner and husband Roger of Hardy, the Rev. Cheryl Helms Wade and husband Richard of Philadelphia, Jack Lawrence Helms, Jr. and wife Judy of Chicago, and Dr. Lynne Helms Foreman and husband, George of Richmond. Also surviving are six grandchildren and two step-grandchildren, David Wade, Grace Helms Kotre and Lily Helms, Alex, Blake and Jack Foreman, Eric and Jay Budner. She is also survived by two siblings, Howard Fisher and Betsy Guilliams, both of Callaway. Funeral services will be conducted from South Roanoke United Methodist Church on Saturday, July 31 at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Stan Wright officiating. Interment will follow in Mountain View Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Friday, July 30 from 6-8 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
