Edna (Oldbury) Atkinson, age 85 of Rocky Mount and formerly of Augusta County went to be with our Heavenly Father on Wednesday, August 14, 2013. She had been a resident of Trinity Mission Health & Rehab of Rocky Mount, VA for the past six years. Born on October 23, 1927, in Warrington, Lancashire, England to the late Ernest and Emily Oldbury, she was also preceded in death by her husband, John Elmer Atkinson (Oct. 4, 2003); one son, Allan Andrew Atkinson (Aug. 1, 1981); and one grandson, Jeffrey David Atkinson (March 15, 1995). Surviving are her oldest son, John David Atkinson and his wife Janice of Rocky Mount, VA; and her daughter, Edna May M. Atkinson of Crimora, VA. Also surviving are her granddaughter, Rosalie Ann Atkinson of Abilene, TX; grandsons, John Mark Atkinson and his wife Jennifer of Georgetown, TX, and Jason Andrew Atkinson of Arlington, VA; and her loveable Yorkie, Don. Mrs. Atkinson retired from Augusta County Commissioner of Revenue?s Office. She was a member of Memorial Baptist Church of Staunton, VA. She was also a 37 year member and Past Matron of the Waynesboro Chapter #105, Order of the Eastern Star. The family is very grateful for the excellent care she has been given by her extended family of Trinity Mission. The family is also very grateful for the kind care shown to her by the Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin County. The family will gather with friends at Franklin Heights Baptist Church in Rocky Mount, VA for a memorial service 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 17, 2013 with Pastor Mark Griffith officiating. Burial will be private in Culpeper National Cemetery. Memorials may be made to Carilion Clinic Hospice of Franklin County, 180 Floyd Ave., Rocky Mount, VA 24151. Her family will receive friends 6-8 pm on Friday at Flora Funeral Service & Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
