Edward Lewis Gray, age 72 of Rocky Mount, went home peacefully early morning on June 30, 2020. He was born on July 1, 1947. He received his education from Lee M. Waid School, class of 1966. Shortly after, he married his wife of 50 years, Doris Evelyn Gray. He had a love for fast cars and enjoyed working with his father Lewis at Bennett's Tire Service. He had many friends whom referred to him as "Greyhound". Edward had a fun personality and was always on the go. He loved calling up family gatherings for a cookout, especially on the fourth of July. He enjoyed visits from his kids and always would have fun putting the smaller grandkids on his riding mower, he knew they loved doing that. He always loved clothes, shoes, and getting his hair cut by his niece, Annette. Edward had a protective fiery side, but also had a very generous heart and love for people. When he smiled, you felt his happiness. Edward loved his mother and her good cooking. He also loved his entire family. He loved attending First Baptist Church where he was Baptized. Occasionally, he would go on Sunday mornings with his brother, Mark. He is preceded in death his father, Lewis Gray; special niece, Amanda Gray; and maternal and paternal grandparents. Gray; children, Edward Junior Noel (Felicia), Lisa Barksdale (Troy), Cherie Burwell, Rebecca Coger (Edward), and Robert Gray; grandchildren, Anthony, Leeandrea, Troy, Alexia, Jaleesia, Omari, Marcus, LeSure, and Domontae; siblings, Billy Gray, Raymond Gray (Connie), Joseph Mark Gray, David Gray (Lois), Florene Muse (Vandel), Loline Young (Robert), Nancy Chism, and Mary Francis Stovall; a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins.
