Edward William Langbein

Edward William Langbein, 78, of Moneta, Virginia, was called to be with the Lord, Saturday, August 5th, 2017, at his home, surrounded by his loved ones. Edward was born November 20, 1938 in Lakewood, NJ to Erich Bruno and Marie Freida (Munzer) Langbein. As a teenager he joined the Jackson NJ Volunteer Fire Department, where he served for many years. He graduated from Lakewood High School in 1957 and served in the Army until 1963. On October 10, 1964 he married the former Judith Anne Hallam in Lakewood, NJ. Edward was employed at Shop Rite Foodarama and worked his way to executive levels. He had a generous spirit and was always willing to give individuals who normally wouldn't be afforded opportunities a chance. He retired to Smith Mountain Lake, Va, in 2001. He was a skilled craftsman who loved building things and working in his yard. He also enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. Edward is survived by his wife, Judith Anne; his two children, Kathleen and her husband Dennis D'Heron of Penhook, Va, and John Eric of Cary, NC; two grandchildren, Edward Louis D'Heron and his wife Holly of Rocky Mount, Va, and Danielle Melinda D'Heron of Penhook, Va; and two great-grandchildren, Gabriel Edward and Connor Louis D'Heron. He was preceded in death by his parents, Erich and Marie; and his sister, Daisy Holland. By Edward's request, service will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude's Research Hospital in his memory. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount/Smith Mountain Lake.
