Effie Brooks Holland, age 89 of Glade Hill, Va. peacefully died Wednesday, July 9, 2008, at the Haven Home.
Effie was born October 26, 1918. She was the daughter of the late Elder Joe and Jimmie David Brooks. She was preceded in death by her husband, Floyd Smith Holland and two daughters, Hazel Holland Davis and Carrie Holland Foutz; her brothers, Morris, James, John, Tillie and Roosevelt Brooks; half brothers, Albert, Fred, and Paul Brooks; half sisters, Mary Dillon, Sally Kate Brown, Mattie Cundiff and Stella Brooks.
She is survived by one daughter, Mildred Holland Shelton (H. Ronald), Glade Hill, Va.; four sons, Joseph Benjamin (J.B.) Holland, Union Hall, Va.; James Smith Holland, Glade Hill, Va.; John Sherrard Holland (Shirley), Boones Mill, Va. and Jeffrey Dodd Holland (Cindy), Union Hall, Va.; brother, Glenwood Brooks; sisters, Ruth Minter, Cecil Brown, Doris Ferguson and Dorothy Sink; grandchildren, Tony Holland (Dena), Travis Holland, Kim Holland, Eddie Shelton (Debbie), Matt Foutz (Hila), Scott Foutz, Chad Foutz (Tammy), Will Davis (Caroline), Chelsea Holland, Kettie Holland and John Will Holland; great-grandchildren, Jesse Shelton; Holland, Eli and Kailee Foutz; Isabelle and Emaline Davis; numerous nieces and nephews and caregiver, Bonnie Harlow, who was deeply appreciated.
Effie was a very loving mother, truly an outdoor lady – loving to work on the farm, in the garden and in her flowers.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Friday, July 11, 2008 with Elder Larry Hollandsworth and Elder Junior Conner officiating. Interment will follow in the Holland Family Cemetery, Glade Hill, Va.
Friends may call after 4 p.m. Thursday, July 10, 2008 with her family receiving friends from 6-9 p.m. at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
Flowers will be accepted or donations may be made to the Free Clinic of Franklin County, 200 Dent Street, Rocky Mount, Va. 24151.
