Elaine Shifflett Mason, age 89 of Sontag passed away Friday, November 20, 2015 at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital. Her death was due to complications from a fall on October 7 at her home in the Sontag Community of Franklin County. Elaine was the widow of Robert Shifflett and the eldest of 11 children of Ralph and Virginia Moomau. Born and raised in Greenville, Va., She lived there until a year and a half ago when she married Sid Mason and moved to her current home. She graduated from Spottswood High School and Dunsmore Business College and worked 39 years at the Waynesboro, Va. DuPont Plant from 1962 until her retirement where she was secretary to plant managers one of whom was Sid Mason. She was a dedicated member of Greenville United Methodist Church and served in numerous capacities including Sunday School Teacher of the Senior High, Secretary of the Council, Secretary of the United Methodist Women and wherever she was needed. In addition to her husband and parents, Elaine was predeceased by four brothers, Quinnlyn, Rock, Lionel and Alvin; two sisters, Lorraine Miller and Nedra Moomau. Survivors in addition to Sid Mason are her son, Ron Shifflett and daughter-in-law, Janet; three grandchildren and their spouses, Brian and Julie Shifflett, Ashley and Chris Tyree, Adam and Ashley Shifflett; and six great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a brother, R.M. Moomau, Jr.; and three sisters, Dolly Hite, Crannie Campbell and Shan Conley. She is also survived by Sid’s family who adored her, Tom and Becky Mason, Betty Dale and Dave Thorp, Marianne and Bill Jordon; four grandchildren; and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Greenville United Methodist Church. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be 6-8 p.m. Sunday at Henry Funeral Home, 1030 West Beverly Street, Staunton, Va.
