She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Richard B. Nuckols; her son, Bobby C. Carter; her sister and brother-in-law Boneta (Bonnie) and Robert Corley; and her brothers and sisters-in-law Lauren and Reavie Carter, Donovan and Dorothy Carter, Otis and Velma Carter, Leslie Carter, and Leon and Elizabeth Carter. Elaine graduated from Ferrum Junior College and Bright’s School of Floral Design. She was an ordained diaconal minister in the United Methodist Church and received her certification from Emory University. She was employed at the Norfolk Naval Base during World War II and was a retail florist for many years.
Elaine was a long-time member of Cave Spring United Methodist Church and several of its United Methodist Women’s groups. She was a poet and writer; avid reader; seamstress and quilter extraordinaire; crossword puzzle expert; gardener and floral arranger; baker beyond compare; source of all wisdom; and lover of words, music, pound cake, flowers, animals, her friends, and her family. She was the epitome of a Southern lady, with grace, charm, gentility, and a dash of mischief.
The family extends its heartfelt gratitude to the staff at The Oaks at Richfield and Good Samaritan Hospice for their love and care.
