Elizabeth Anne Shelburne Beale, 94, of Rocky Mount, died peacefully in her home on Friday, January 16, 2015, surrounded by many of her loving family. She was born on October 10, 1920 in Rocky Mount, the daughter of the late Cephus Gillespie Shelburne and Emma Divers Shelburne. She married the Rev. George William (Bill) Beale, II on July 11, 1944 who was the rector at Trinity Episcopal Church. They then moved to Bedford, VA, Louisville, KY, San Francisco, CA, Callaway, VA and back to Rocky Mount. She was very active with Trinity Episcopal Church where she loved to sing in the choir and also sang in the Franklin County Community Choir for several years. She loved taking long walks, gardening, reading her Bible and visiting with family and friends. She is remembered by many for taking first place in the Downtown Dash and the local 5K Run, even one year pushing her grandson in his stroller! She was preceded in death by her husband, the Rev. George W. (Bill) Beale, II, her daughter, Katherine Divers Beale, siblings, Doug (Flossie) Shelburne, Charles Shelburne, Evelyn (Ebbie) Shelburne and Helen (Clyde) Perdue. She is survived by her children, the Rev. Elizabeth S.(Betty) Beale (Thomas) of British Columbia, George W. Beale, III (Gloria) of California, Thomas D. Beale (Kim) of Texas, and Evelyn (Ebby) B. Conde (John) of Rocky Mount, and her sister-in-law Louise Shelburne of Martinsville. Her Grandchildren, Cosmo Beale (Susan), Tamaya Beale (Carl), Josh Beale (Stephanie), Will Beale, of British Columbia, Lillian Jaghab (Rashad), Scott Beale (Erica), Elizabeth Beale, of California, Kristy Layman (Brian), of Hardy, Noah Beale, Jonah Beale, Lilli Beale, of Texas, John Conde, Jr., and Matthew Conde, of Rocky Mount. Her great grandchildren, Latishia, Michael, Monica, Dylan, Jenna, Ryan, Jack, Kyle, and Mason and many great- great grandchildren. Funeral services will be conducted from Trinity Episcopal Church 2 p.m. Tuesday with the Rev. David E. Taylor officiating. Interment will follow in High Street Cemetery.
