Elizabeth Jane Bushnell Caldwell (Nannie), age 79, of Rocky Mount died Thursday, May 29, 2008 following a long and courageous battle with ovarian cancer.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James Leo Caldwell; parents, Eber Mark Henry and Nora Minnie Orange Bushnell; grandson, Darren Scott Rakestraw; brothers, Bill and James Bushnell; sisters, Lorraine Lawson and Alta Marie Bushnell.
She was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and an honorary member of the Pleasant Hill United Methodist Women.
Mrs. Caldwell is survived by her daughters, Dianne Cawley and husband Wayne, Linda Robinson and husband Sam; grandchildren, Wendy Ayers and husband Lionel, Justin and Crystal Cawley; granddaughter-in-law, Malisa Rakestraw; great-grandchildren, Chelsea and Nikki Rakestraw, Hannah and Isaiah Ayers; step-grandsons; Dr. Steve Robinson and Keith Robinson; sisters, Mildred Martin, Jean Manspile, Carolyn Heath and husband Aubrey; and many special nieces and nephews.
Special thanks to Dr. Padmaja Mallidi and staff of Blue Ridge Cancer Care, Good Samaritan Hospice, the staff of 10th floor south at Carilion Roanoke Memorial Hospital; special friend, Bill Brunellie with Radiology Associates at Lewis-Gale Hospital and friends and church family of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church for supporting the family with prayers, cards, food and love.
Funeral services will be conducted from Flora Funeral Chapel 2 p.m. Sunday with Pastor Liz Lazenby officiating. Interment will follow at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Relay for Life or to the Alyssa Nicole or Chelsea Rakestraw Fund that has been established at Member One Federal Credit Union, 40 Member One Way, Rocky Mount, VA. 24151.
Her family will be receiving friends from 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Flora Funeral Service, 665 South Main Street, Rocky Mount.
