Elmer Vincent (E.V.) Smith, 84, of Union Hall, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Thursday, December 15, 2011. “E.V.” was born on October 16, 1927 in Pittsburg, PA to Adrenne Campbell Smith and Elmer Howard Smith. After enlisting in the Navy and serving during World War II, he spent most of his working life with US Sprint, both in Fayetteville, NC and Ft Myers, FL. Poppy (E.V.) was a wonderful father and grandfather. He had a unique way of voicing’his opinion and saying things, i.e., the post office wasn’t big enough to wrestle a cat in; and so on. He was an unofficial member of the Rat Pack, often breaking out in song with Frank Sinatra and friends. Always a child at heart, he completed his bucket list with gusto! He will be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his daughters, Karen Russell and Susan Simpson, and son, Kenny Smith. His sons Timmy and E.V., Jr. (Sonny) preceded him in death. Grandchildren include Tara Russell, Jason Lewis, Amber Lewis (deceased) Robin Smith, Ben Presley, and Heidi Black. He is also survived by great-grandchildren Christopher and Tim. He will also be missed by his faithful companions, Romy-O and Jackie. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. Cremation services provided by Flora Funeral Home. The family will have a private “celebration of life” service, as E.V. desired.
