Ernest Darrell “Dick” Robertson, age 95 of Wirtz passed away on Monday August 27, 2018. Dick was born on September 14, 1922 to the late Samuel and Maude Robertson of Wirtz, VA. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty McGuire Robertson; a daughter, Debbie Robertson and a granddaughter, Carla Dalton. Also, passing before him were his brother, Gilbert Robertson and two sisters, Beulah Robertson Davis and Josie Robertson Dillon. He is survived by his daughter, Sue Dalton (Tom) and a son, Sammy Robertson (Iris). He leaves behind three grandsons, Dee Dalton (Lindy), Ernie Robertson (Katie), Lance Robertson (Barbara); one granddaughter, Brittany Robertson Moore (Ben); four great grandchildren, Delilah and L.J. Robertson and Cora and Finley Dalton; special friends, Buck Simmons and Rusty Mooney. The family would like to thank Good Samaritan Hospice and the staff at Pheasant Ridge Assisted Living. Dick has always made his home in Franklin County, where he drove a school bus in his early years. He was a cattle farmer for the rest of his life and loved this life indeed. He loved Black Angus and Charolais cattle like most love their pets. For years he entertained on his farm with numerous Blue Grass Festivals and Motor Cross Races. When Smith Mountain Lake was built, Dick sold boats and opened "Dicks Food Center" at Crossroads. One of Dick's greatest passions was dancing at Redwood Community Center. He was a member of the Moose Lodge, where he and Betty shared wonderful times together with long-time friends. He loved to talk, never met a stranger and was a friend to all. He was a brilliant man and never lost his quick wit! A Celebration of Life will be conducted from Flora Funeral Home in Rocky Mount, VA 11:00 a.m. Thursday, August 30, 2018 with Rev. Melvin Harris officiating. Interment will follow at Franklin Memorial Park. The family will receive visitors from 6-8 p.m. Wednesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Halesford Baptist Church at 2485 Lost Mountain Road, Wirtz, VA or Redwood Community Center at 211 Blackwater Hills Lane, Glade Hill, Virginia 24092. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service and Cremation Center, Rocky Mount.
