Ernest Lee Goad, age 56, of Rocky Mount, beloved husband of Joyce Ramsey-Goad, died peacefully in his sleep at his home on Thursday, January 17, 2008.
He had valiantly battled cancer for 15 months.
He was predeceased by his father, William Ernest Goad; and a brother, Leonard Goad.
He is survived by his wife, Joyce Ramsey-Goad; a daughter and husband Melissa and Marty Walker; his grandchildren, Chris, Aaron, and Tyler Walker; one great-grandchild, Tristyn. He is also survived by his mother, Eleanor Goad; his sisters and their husbands, Nancy Campbell and Donnie, Gail Gillis and Lynn David, Linda Faye Harris and Shorty; his brother and wife, Charles Goad and Beth. Also, Ernie is survived by countless nieces and nephews, and his best buddy, his dog Dude.
Ernie was a veteran of the U.S. Army.
Ernie was a sweet and loving man, strong and caring all his life. He was and extraordinary builder, honest and dependable in every project he participated. He was an accomplished guitarist, and loved nothing more than to play with his friends and family. He was close to the earth, and he enjoyed growing his tomatoes and working on the farm with his deceased father-in-law, Stuart Ramsey. Ernie never met a stranger, and was a fierce and loyal friend, providing a strong shoulder and helping hand wherever needed.
He sheltered his chronically ill wife, Joyce, through all life’s hardships and shared with her all their many joyous times together. Ernie and Joyce were soul mates, and were given 25 wonderful years with each other.
A memorial service and visitation will be held at Flora Funeral Service on Saturday, January 26, 2008 from 2:00 to 3:30 p.m.
Potted plants or small floral arrangements will be appreciated and are welcome. Most of these will be donated to Carilion Franklin Memorial Hospital patients and staff at Ernie’s Request.
