After three years of waiting, Ernest Marvin Hundley, age 94 of Rocky Mount went home to be with his “doll” Varlita Sunday, January 10, 2010. He was a longtime member of Sandy Ridge Baptist Church and retired in 1978 from N&W Railroad after many years of service. Varlita always told him that he lost his “seniority” to her when he retired. He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Hundley and Annie Bell Harville Hayden; his wife of 71 years, Varlita Hundley; one brother, Percy F. Hundley; and step-father, Ben Hayden. Surviving are his daughters and son-in-law, Deloris Broyles, Patricia H. Walter and husband Donald; granddaughters, Sabrina Pado and husband Lowell, Terri Baetzman and husband Bubba, Cheri R. Foutz; great-granddaughter “The Great One”, Patria Heberle and husband Brady; special niece, Joyce Hundley Amato; and many other nieces and nephews. Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 11 a.m. Thursday with Rev. Charles R. Doyle officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to Sandy Ridge Baptist Church Building Fund, 1444 Bonbrook Mill Road, Rocky Mount, Virginia 24151. His family will receive friends 6-8 p.m. Wednesday at Flora Funeral and Cremation Service, Rocky Mount.
