Eslie W. Sledd, Jr., age 83 of Rocky Mount died Tuesday, October 16, 2007. He was a member of Highland United Methodist Church and a Navy veteran of WW II from April 1, 1944 – May 7, 1946 serving in the Southwest Pacific on U.S.S. Talita. He retired from John W. Hancock with 31 years of service. He was preceded in death by his parents E. W. Sledd and Mary Hale Sledd; brothers Joseph, Lloyd and Harry Sledd; sisters Joyce Elaine and two infants; sister-in-law Mary G. Sledd. Surviving are his wife of 61 years, Mary Webb Sledd; his sons and daughter-in-law, Michael Sledd and Charles and Judy Sledd; special grandsons, Adam Sledd, Casey Sledd and Corey Sledd; brother and sister-in-law Pete and Jeanette Sledd; sisters and brothers-in-law Eva and Albert Ashworth, Ethel Scott, Serena Matthews, Cecile and Fred Bussey, Norma J. Cootes; sisters-in-law Joyce Sledd, Helen Sledd, Helen Webb and Earnestine Webb; many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Graveside services will be conducted from Franklin Memorial Park 2:30 p.m. Thursday with Rev. Beth Watkins officiating. The family has requested no flowers or food and asks that you make a memorial gift to feed a hungry child. There will be no visitation. Arrangements by Flora Funeral Service, Rocky Mount.
