Estelle Matherly Oakes

Estelle Matherly Oakes age 81, of Penhook, Va. passed away Saturday June 20, 2009. Mrs. Oakes retired from Pannell Knitting Co. and was an active member of Forrest Hill Christian Church. Preceding Mrs. Oakes in death were her parents Roy and Kate Matherly, brothers J.B. , Blue , Raymond and George , sister Rebecca Pagans. Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Curtis Oakes, daughter and son-in-law Phyllis and Ian Smith of Roanoke, Va. son and daughter-in-law Curtis Wayne and Pam Oakes of Pineville, LA. grandchildren Shane Smith, Alisha Smith, Rainelle Tisher, Curtis Wayne Oakes, Jr. , four great-grandchildren, brothers and sisters-in-law Page and Aleise Matherly, Ronald and Betty Matherly, Gerald and Joan Matherly, sister and brother-in-law Joan and John Dyches, Many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be conducted 11:00 a.m. Tuesday at Forrest Hill Christian Church with Ted Clifton, Minister officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. The family suggests memorials be made to Snow Creek Fire Dept. or Rescue Squad or Forrest Hill Christian Church. Her family will receive friends 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. Monday at Forrest Hill Church.
